Hillside Middle School recently celebrated the rich cultural diversity within its school community with a vibrant and educational International Day event. Held during the school day, the celebration brought students and staff together to honor traditions from around the world.
The day kicked off with a dynamic whole-school assembly featuring a performance by the Furteelay Dance Group, whose colorful and energetic presentation set the tone for the festivities. Following the assembly, students rotated through a variety of interactive stations that highlighted different cultures and customs.
Stations included Family Displays showcasing personal heritage stories, delicious Food Samples from local eateries, and a performance by Polynesian Dancers. Students also engaged in a series of classroom presentations and activities, such as Chinese paper art, international trivia games, Mexican bingo, henna tattoos, international flag bead keychains, and origami. Italian pizzelle cookies added a sweet touch to the experience, giving students a literal taste of international traditions.
International Day was a true celebration of Hillside's diverse community, offering students the opportunity to learn, experience, and appreciate cultures from around the globe — all within the walls of their school.
