Northville Celebrates State of the Community

The annual Northville Chamber of Commerce State of the Community Luncheon was held on Wednesday, April 19th at Schoolcraft College.

The luncheon features local leaders who present on the happenings and initiatives of their community. The featured speakers this year were Brian Turnbull, City of Northville Mayor, Mark Abbo, Northville Township Supervisor, and Dr. RJ Webber, Northville Public Schools Superintendent.

Dr. Webber proudly emphasized that school safety is a priority at Northville Public Schools. He shared that at the beginning of the school year, the district gave keys to the three police jurisdictions that cover the district for all police to carry so they can access our buildings faster.

Dr. Webber also shared with the community that NPS has the #1 MSTEP scores in the state this year.

Dr. Webber also explained ways we are supporting the wellbeing of our staff and students. Our buildings have spaces for students to chill such as the ZenDen at NHS and ChillVille at Moraine. In February, the district hosted the 9th annual Parent Camp which included a Mental Health and Wellness Fair for the first time. Some of the breakout sessions included stress and anxiety, understanding grief, and decreasing stigma around mental health. The district also launched an Employee Wellness Program this year which includes Weight Watchers, Pryde Athletics classes, and Aetna for staff and family members which includes services such as emotional support/counseling, legal, financial, and daily life assistance.
